Book jacket illustration is the illustration that expresses or previews
the main behavior of the most important character
that are in that specific book and also shows the aspect of the stories.
Usually, it is a single picture or scene that go well with the colors and theme of the book.
The objective is to emphasize the main point or main character and make the book look interesting,
call for attention to read, shows the type of each book and catches the eyes for different readers (genration and target)
Duncan Long is the talent and famous book cover illustrator. He creates book design/layout work and sometimes modify typefaces for publications. His book covers illustrated directly to the book stories, he often previews people in realistic manner, also in the imagination and future themes. His works are clean, look soft but vivid and give a very clear picture. Most of his illustrations look like 3D graphics and look so real because he plays with alot of light and shadow. He has created a thousand illustrations for magazines, books, and small publishers. He has been producing alot of great works and different kind of books such as science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, action-advanture, concept art, movie mattes, and children's book

He shows the mystery feeling through the darkness and feel the curiosity through the detective dress.
He uses light and shadow to make it interesting and look real.

This drawing also shows a good theme of darkness and scary feeling.
He also emphasize the character in the red dress.
I like the castle background, it expresses more feeling to the foreground.

The thunder shows that there are some conflict and important problem in the story.
Again, the drawing looks clear. He plays with shadow and lighting.

I like how he compose the moon and the actor, sometime centered is strong.
Good use of colors, the moon is glow and standout from the blown background color.
I also like the texture of the suit, the cloth and the chain.
